Vacation Bible School Comes to Friendship Haven

Rev. Jennifer Osheim-Owen hosts week-long session

Rev. Jennifer Osheim-Owen, Friendship Haven’s Spiritual Care Coordinator, recently held a week-long bible study for Friendship Haven residents. Approximately 35 residents chose to attend the bible study that covered a host of topics centered around the theme, “Be Well.” Pastor Jennifer used a wellness wheel to cover six areas of focus.

Monday kicked off the week with focusing on emotional wellness. Pastor Jennifer explained how emotional wellness holds all of the other components together and recognizing and honoring your own feelings and those of others will help your life abundantly.

Tuesday’s theme was intellectual wellness and our Wellness staff hosted the day, discussing brain health and exercises to keep the mind sharp and alert.

Vocational wellness was the theme for Wednesday and Pastor Jennifer encouraged all of the participants to find and reflect on each of their callings in life and how God has steered them there.

“We are created by God to be social beings, living in community and instructed to help and love each other,” explains Pastor Jennifer. This idea was the framework behind Thursday’s topic of social wellness. Vespers was also held on Thursday, tying the week together with spiritual wellness.

In addition, each day included a movement prayer, bible lesson and study, crafts, snacks and singing of traditional hymns. Pastor Jennifer invited three community pastors to join in throughout the week, leading bible study and discussing various topics.

Residents enjoyed the week-long bible study and plans are already underway for next year’s vacation bible school.
