Keeping Up With The Wellness Dimensions: Spiritual Wellness
You are on a journey of wellness. And wellness means maintaining balance in all aspects of life – social/interpersonal, emotional, physical, financial, vocational, and intellectual. The Wholeness Wheel provides a picture of this process. It reminds us that being well is about being in balance and that wellness begins at birth, both our physical and our spiritual births.
Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength impacts everything we do and everything we are. Starting first with your spiritual health makes balancing the wheel much easier because we know whose we are. In a culture that encourages us to rely on different kinds of specialists for the different dimensions of our lives, it is easy to forget to see ourselves as whole beings—the way God sees us. The Wholeness Wheel brings everything together in the essential question of how we go about living well in Christ. You are a new creation in Christ. All of you – mind, body and spirit. But until Jesus Christ returns, you’re still a work-in-progress. Nurture your spirit. There are many ways to do so: meditation, prayer, exercise/physical, financial, intellectual, social, vocational. The possibilities are endless in ways to nurture your soul, so think outside the box. Find something that works for you and then share it with someone else.
Martin Luther said: “This life, therefore, is not godliness but the process of becoming godly, not health but getting well, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not now what we shall be, but we are on the way. The process is not yet finished, but it is actively going on. This is not the goal but it is the right road. At present, everything does not gleam and sparkle, but everything is being cleansed.”
May you find balance and centering of your Wheel, not only spiritually, but in all aspects of your life that will include faith, passion and purpose.
